A kiállítás George Roast és Krász Kíra Dorottya egymásra épülő munkáit mutatja be. A két Brightonban diplomázó fotóművész élete teljesen megváltozott, amikor életüket 2020-ban Angliából Magyarországra költöztették. Kíra számára ez az otthont jelentette, a visszatérést a régihez, George számára az újat, a távolságot, kommunikációs és nyelvi nehézségeket, melyeket mint brit állampolgár nap mint nap tapasztal. Ebben az időszakban, erről készült közös projektjük a “Vállad a vállam nyomja, mégis felemelsz”.
Az alkotók játékosan szemlélik ezt a különbséget, az érzelmi támogatást és az egymásra helyezett teher eloszlását. Összehasonlítják adottságaikat, az élet által előírt arányaikat, majd különböző módszereket találnak olyan, testükkel formázott pozíciókra, melyek egymásba illenek, mégis nyomást gyakorolnak egymásra. Kapcsolatuk, mint egy önmagát fenntartó szerkezet, erőfeszítést, és állandó alkalmazkodást igényel az egyensúly fenntartása érdekében. A kompozíciókból egyértelművé válik, hogy az összes egység szerves része az egésznek. A kép részekre bontásával, a szerkezet szét is eshet, egyensúlyából ki is billenhet.
A kiállításon megtalálhatók lesznek George zselatinos papír kompozíciói is, ahol különböző korú és tónusú papírok kerültek előhívásra, illetve Kíra Tetris által inspirált munkái.

The project ‘I stay grounded, by holding you up’ came to creation shortly after Kíra Krász and George Roast relocated their lives from England to Hungary, a move which brought with it new aspects of interdependence. For Kíra, it was home, but for George, it was far away, not just in physical distance but also due to language difficulties. The artists looked playfully at this difference exploring the interplay between the emotional support and equal burden that they have placed on one another.
They addressed this by comparing their endowments and the proportions of their bodies that life has prescribed, finding different ways in which their forms would fit with each other, yet put pressure on the other. It is an abstract perception of the mutually excerted burden, as well as the shared responsibility to uphold. It addresses the fact that a relationship is a self-supported structure requiring effort, strength, and constant adjustment in order to maintain balance. The compositions become metaphorical of this notion, by breaking the image into parts, it becomes evident that each part is integral to understanding the whole.
This collaborative project arose from two separate bodies of work: George Roast’s series, ‘Little Jacket for a Man’, a collection that explored the latent images of expired darkroom paper, and ‘Squaring each other to fit’ by Kíra Krász inspired by the video game Tetris, using the gameplay as a metaphor to reflect the physical and emotional impacts of the 2020 quarantine due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Pieces from these series are included as part of this exhibition.
